Shona badhano Shakha-Pola (Bengali name)/Gold Embedded Conch-Shell Bangle & Gold Embedded Red Lac Bangle Design:

A conch shell bangle, known as shankha in bengali, and a red wax/lac bangle, known as pola in Bengali, together signify a married bengali woman. Sakha-pola is an integral part of Bengali culture. They are worn by the married woman for the well being of their husband. Earlier I had written a post on "Sankha pola" and because many readers sent me mails and wanted to what all different popular designs are available in different shops, I am sharing some really beautiful designs that I found after research.
Here goes some nice designs of shona badhano shakha-pola (Gold Embedded Conch-Shell Bangle & Gold Embedded Red Lac Bangle).

    1. If you want to buy simple, plain shakha pola you can go to Baghbazar or Daksineswar kaali maa mandir or if you are looking for gold embeded sakha pola you can go to any gold jewellery shop in Kolkata, But I would suggest you to go at Anjali jewellers, they have really good designs.

    1. Thnks and welcome to my blog! Well cost will always depend on the design you like and on current gold rate but minimum of 3 gm of gold would be sfficient for conch shell bangles and as per Anjali Jewellers (here is their website http://www.anjali.bz), I am sorry to say that they do not have any showrooms in Bangalore, though there is a showroom of P.C.Chandra Jewellers (http://www.pcchandraindia.com), who are equally famous amongst Bengalis, you can check out their designs too for bangles.

    1. Hi,
Though I have never been to Pune, however I have heard that there is a place called Khadki, where you can find conh shell bangles or shakha pola. You can also contact your nearby Bengali community, I think they can also help you out in this regard. If all this doesn't work out, then you can buy shanka pola from these online stores too... Here are the links:

      http://www.indiamart.com/orient-jewellers/products.html#sankha

But buying gold embedded conch shell bangles or shona badhano online, can be a little bit risk (as I have not tried this myself ), so as per my opinion you can buy a normal shankha pola and then you can give it to your local goldsmith, show them some shona badhano shakha pics for reference and I think they can easily craft it for you.

Please do share your experience with shankha pola.

    1. Hi there, if you are looking for simple shakha pola you can visit C.R. Park Mareket No.1, there are some shops which sell bengali wedding items and shakha pola specially, but be careful with the quality, coz they some time ask too much money for just plastic/fiber made shakha pola, so for the original ones you have to keep an eye. And if you are in search for gold embedded shakha pola or shona badhano shakha pola you can visit P.C. Chandra Jewellers (K1/20 Chittaranjan Park,New Delhi-110019. Phone: 011-26270002, E-mail: delhi@pcchandraindia.com), which is also in C.R. Park or you can visit GoldSouk in Gurgaon and can visit M.P. Jewellers.
